Meet Club Member: Nita Sweeney

Nita Sweeney’s transformation began at age 49 when a friend’s social media post inspired her to start running despite her struggle with depression, obesity, and lack of motivation. Initially, she jogged privately, motivated by a charity 5k honoring her late niece. Gradually, running became a joyful experience that improved her mental and physical health. She joined a running group, completed numerous races, and even published a book, showcasing the profound impact running had on her life.

Running Milestones Achieved at 4 Corners

At the Four Corners Quad Keyah Marathon/Half Marathon in early December, Liz Gmerek achieved her 101st marathon of the year. Pelicano Monte Pascual celebrated his 900th full marathon, while Kevin Brosi completed his 105th marathon of 2025, and Victoria Carroll marked her 100th half marathon of the year. These accomplishments highlight their dedication and performance in long-distance running.

Tales From Medal Monday Volume 4 Chapter 20

Medal Monday highlights recent achievements in marathoning from members of the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics. Notable stories include Steve Walters’ 15th Seattle Ghost Marathon, Tony Phillippi’s fastest marathon in six years, and several members completing various races across the U.S. and beyond. Congratulations to new Hall of Fame inductees Eddie Hahn and Sherry Gottlieb for completing 333 marathons.

Meet Club Member: Gavin Anderson (HF14007)

Gavin Anderson shares his inspiring journey from skepticism to passion for running half marathons. He completed his first half marathon in 2015, overcoming tendinitis, and became addicted to the challenge. Celebrating his heritage, he now runs in Scottish attire and recently completed his 50th half marathon, continuing to inspire others.

Meet Club Member: Tonisia Billups

Tonisia, a former sedentary taxi mom, began her fitness journey after becoming an empty nester in 2012. Through running and a supportive community, she completed numerous races, including marathons on all seven continents. Despite a recent hip injury, she aims to run all 50 states, adapting her goals to a new pace.

Conquering Iowa’s Hillbilly Hike

Scott Pearson reflects on completing the Half 70 race in Iowa, a local event amid chilly temperatures and a scenic course. Despite a challenging year, he achieved a solid finish time of 240 minutes. He expressed disappointment in the wooden medal, contrasting it with previous years’ offerings, while appreciating the volunteers’ efforts and post-race food.

Birthday Notifications Overload: Crushing the Ocean City RunFest Half

Tina Torun celebrated her birthday by participating in the Ocean City Maryland RunFest Half Marathon, finishing with a time under her goal of 3:30 despite a recent fall. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming birthday wishes she received, noting her phone was flooded with messages at the race’s conclusion.
