Meet Club Member: Troy Hoffland
Troy Hoffland, who began running on April 9, 2024, transformed from a non-runner at 194 pounds to a passionate marathoner weighing 160 pounds. Inspired by a friend, he embraced running, aiming to compete in the historic Boston Marathon. After following a training plan and facing an injury, he secured a spot as a charity runner, raising over $15,400 for Fisher House. Troy has since participated in multiple marathons, achieving personal records and plans to run London in 2026, motivated and supported by a community of fellow runners.
Kicking Off 2026 Strong: State 47 Las Cruces Half Marathon
Sheri Fulton Camp completed her first race of the year at the State 47 Las Cruces Half Marathon, marking her 13th state in her third round and her 240th lifetime half marathon. The flat out-and-back course featured scenic views of pecan orchards and the Rio Grande River. Runners enjoyed a track finish, which was easier than gravel. After a weekend off, Sheri plans to participate in the RNR Arizona, which includes a 5k and a half marathon.

Nita Sweeney’s transformation began at age 49 when a friend’s social media post inspired her to start running despite her struggle with depression, obesity, and lack of motivation. Initially, she jogged privately, motivated by a charity 5k honoring her late niece. Gradually, running became a joyful experience that improved her mental and physical health. She joined a running group, completed numerous races, and even published a book, showcasing the profound impact running had on her life.

Gavin Anderson shares his inspiring journey from skepticism to passion for running half marathons. He completed his first half marathon in 2015, overcoming tendinitis, and became addicted to the challenge. Celebrating his heritage, he now runs in Scottish attire and recently completed his 50th half marathon, continuing to inspire others.

Tonisia, a former sedentary taxi mom, began her fitness journey after becoming an empty nester in 2012. Through running and a supportive community, she completed numerous races, including marathons on all seven continents. Despite a recent hip injury, she aims to run all 50 states, adapting her goals to a new pace.
