Meet Club Member: Randell Hansen(MM8508, DA2931, HF16161) –I ran my first 5K on July 4, 2004, and resumed running three years later with more 5Ks before gradually working up to 10Ks, half marathons, and finally my first full marathon in November 2009.
In 2011, I decided to take on the challenge of running a marathon in all 50 states—a perfect combination of my love for running, traveling, and spending time with my dad. In late 2013, I learned about the Marathon Maniacs club and earned bronze status after completing the Detroit and Philadelphia Marathons that fall, followed by the Mississippi Blues Marathon in January 2014—all within 90 days. I proudly wore my Marathon Maniacs singlet for the first time at the Little Rock Marathon on March 2, 2014, where I took 3rd in my age group. The following month, I ran the Boston Marathon in 3:02:07, and then set a new PR in May at the Cleveland Marathon with a time of 2:57:56, qualifying for silver status. I later achieved Iridium status after finishing the 2015 Baltimore Marathon.
Over the years, I continued racing across the U.S. and ultimately completed my 50 States goal in October 2022 at the Duke City Marathon in Albuquerque. Since then, I’ve revisited a few states, completed the MCM 50K in October 2024, and ran the Berlin, London, and Tokyo Marathons in 2023, 2024, and 2025, respectively—earning my Abbott World Marathon Majors Six-Star Finisher medal.
Today, I’m proud to be a Marathon Maniac, a 50 States Finisher, a 50<4 Finisher, and a Six-Star Finisher. While life changes have limited how often I can travel to races, running remains a constant. My goal is to stay active and healthy—both physically and mentally—and to keep connecting with the amazing friends I’ve made along the way.
