Sam Friedman(MM11684) I had only run 11 marathons when I began to get the thought in my head to run all 50 states. My goal to run Boston was out of the way and I decided to run as many marathons as I could. I hated training so my plan was that if I could run a marathon every weekend I wouldn’t have to train and I could always be ready. Then my plan fell apart after a I incurred a knee injury following a double marathon weekend followed by a 50K race. My knee was so injured, but I managed to do 2 more marathons before I took 4 months off to heal. Once I was recovered I was able to pull off about 35 marathons per year in many states. My knee were iffy at times but got me through. At 3 other races I had to deal with semi serious heat exhaustion in 92° weather. At my final state at the 2017 Route 66 Marathon in Oklahoma, my knee was bugging me again and nearly quit on me at the half way point. I was so close, so I slowed my pace until I got the pain under control and ran to the end. It was a tremendous feeling! I’m now 60 and hoping to complete my 2nd round.
