From Start to Finish: Gysel Parajon’s Journey Through Baltimore’s Marathon Terrain

Gysel Parajon(MM8995) – Double Marathon Weekend, Part 1: Baltimore, Saturday October 19, 2024, State 19, Marathon #73.
I was going to try to be concise and do a write-up on both races this weekend in one post but I cannot do it. Plus there were so many things to see, especially in Baltimore. So here goes Day 1.
I slept in on Saturday as my airbnb was across the street from the start line. I knew I was staying close but I didn’t realize how close until the day before. It was a beautiful day for a running tour of Baltimore. I felt really good for most of the race up until mile 22 when my feet started seizing up followed soon after by my legs. Despite this I kept moving. The crowd support was fantastic. The people of Baltimore are wonderful people. And the course is hilly but I truly prefer that. There was a good section between miles 9 – 15, or thereabouts that were flat and they were hard for me. That’s where I incorporated more of a run/walk segment and then more of a walk/run segment in the last four miles because my feet and legs were pretty sore.
I saw another runner cut the course, which was so shocking to me at the moment that I didn’t say anything right then but I did report her to the racing company. I hope others did too. She was hard to miss in a bright neon orange outfit with a caution tape design that I had photographed early in the race because of its uniqueness. The second image here in this post.
Despite slowing down in the second half due to the cramping in my legs I really enjoyed this race and the city of Baltimore. I wouldn’t mind tackling it again.
