Denis McCarthy (MM853) – 500th Marathon/Ultra Race Completed at Rodeo Valley Trail 50K on the Marin headlands in California. It was a family affair with Clare and Shane running the half marathon and Robert doing the 8k. Shane took 4th overall, Clare 4th in Age Group and Robert took 8th overall and 2nd in Age Group. Much tougher course than anticipated with some crazy rocky climbs.
The journey started Oct 2002 when Andy Ellarby convinced a bunch of work colleagues to run the Grand Canyon International Marathon on the rim of Grand Canyon West. Kept doing them chasing time improvements, qualified and ran Boston a couple of times, then focused on doing US States for marathons and ultras and before you know it, it’s #500 🙂. I’ve slowed as expected with age and realize that the influence and comradery of the running community is what keeps me coming back.
Going to hang up the shoes for now….at least until next week end 🙂.

Denis, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment! You’re one of the many runners that made running marathons fun!! My new knees might just convince me to run again, soon. Miss you!
