Medal Monday from Revel – Big Bear

Michael Culley – (MM15667)

MEDAL MONDAY (Revel, Big Bear edition) And this sure is BIG!! What a wild 2 weeks it’s been. This was my third marathon in 14 days.
It started with the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC. It’s a beautiful course, but I ran with food poisoning that day (DO NOT RECOMMEND), so I was pretty miserable. I had a finish time of 4:26:41.
Last weekend was the New York City Marathon. It was warm that day, so I adjusted my pace, and just had fun out there. The spectators in New York City are like none other! The atmosphere is electric. It’s so much fun as you can see from my Facebook videos last week. My NYC Marathon had a finish time of 3:27:04.
This weekend I was on a mission. Down to business! I’ve been working towards the 3 hour mark for quite some time, and I set a goal of 2:57:00 for this race. Pretty lofty goal since my PR was 3:04:19. I ran a smart race, stayed on the tangents as best as I could, and just focused on the mile that I was in. Keeping a close eye on my mile splits, I realized that I was building a cushion below the 3 hour mark. I just had to hang on and keep my rhythm. A lot easier said than done, especially in that final 10K. I crossed the finish line at 2:55:42! A HUGE PR, and my first SUB 3 HOUR MARATHON!! 🥳 I still can’t believe it! 🤯 On top of the world! A big THANK YOU to @runrevel for putting on another AMAZING event!!
