In Honor and Memory of (Coast Guard Half)

Kathryn Oakley (HF18360) Sunday, 06 March 2022. This past Friday, 04 March 2022 I took a road trip from Virginia to Elizabeth City, NC to participate in the first (inaugural) in-person 2022 Coast Guard Marathon Weekend.

Last year (the original inaugural year) went virtual and did not have a marathon distance at that time. I took on the “Semper Paratus” Challenge by completing the 5k run on Friday night and the Half Marathon the next morning on Saturday, 05 March 2022.

Lifetime Half Marathon #20 Done ✅.

Appropriate number (unplanned) as I did 20-years active duty service in the U.S. Coast Guard. New State (North Carolina) #10 out of 50.

I virtually joined #TeamJoy prior to the 2022 Coast Guard Marathon Weekend and met everyone on the team in-person either the night of the 5k or the morning of the Half Marathon.

We ran in honor and memory of AMT3 Caroline Joy Schollaert 09/17/1994 – 08/04/2021.

I have been retired from the U.S. Coast Guard for 16 years, so I never personally met or knew AMT3 Schollaert. However, as I was running the 13.1 miles, I had fellow runners ask me about AMT3 Schollaert (I had a photo collage bib on the back of my vest).

I was happy to share a conversation with my fellow runners. #halffanatics #hf18360
