This weekend I was in Tennessee running the Falls Creek Half marathon.
The humidity was purely off the charts awful 😖 🥵 but I finished and received my bling so all was good in the end.
So I have to admit the race organizers seem to need a bit of help with organization (just my opinion). Not being familiar with the area, I went by the only real address provided in the race emails for packet pick up/race start area and that led to an abandoned building. Signage was seriously lacking but luckily I had friends running too and they gave me at least a street so Waze could find it.
The packet pick up line was slower than normal but they had the process down.
You could easily see the finish line arch but it was a different location than the starting line which again was unorganized. I just followed the herd and found it.
The race was supposed to start at 7:30 but they were far from set up so it didn’t begin until about 15 minutes or so later. They had no bull horn but were trying to give out verbal instructions. Who does that if you know your voice isn’t loud enough? (Just saying).
This was a tough race (at least for me) because of the what seemed like 100% humidity and the hills and slanted running areas. I was completely soaked by the end of the race.
The course itself, like I said, had a bunch of hills but it was full of gorgeous scenery. You even ran around the beautiful lake area.
Someone in their infinite wisdom decided it was a good idea to add STAIRS to the race course.😱
That was a first for me.
The water stops were plentiful and well spaced out and all had the option of water or electrolyte drink (can’t remember brand). Some stops had Gu as well.
The volunteers were awesome. They even had kids from the boy/cub scouts to help out which I thought was awesome. All of the volunteers were friendly and always had encouraging words for the runners/walkers.
I did not see any official photographers anywhere on the course which is also a first for me for a half marathon. At one of the water stops, there was a gentleman sitting down that would take photos with his cell phone but not sure if he was with race or not. Maybe he just liked the way we looked…🤣🏃♀️🏃♂️
Not sure I would do this race again but I am glad I did it because I got to see a new area and one that I will definitely come back and visit. ***Oh, I forgot to add that the post race snacks offered bananas, granola bars, chips and rainbow gold fish crackers.***
