Natalie Uyeno(MM15186, HF17314, DA3505) -Lifetime ultramarathon #3 (marathon/ultra #16) is in the books! ✅ I completed 32.5 miles (a little over 50K) at the Silver Moon Kings River 12-hour race. It was my slowest, toughest 50K since I’m currently undergoing active chemo for my metastatic breast cancer, but I barely made it with less than 4 minutes to spare! 😬
My plan was to go out slow and steady and power walk to avoid aggravating my neuropathy, but I realized that I would need to pick up the pace the last 2 laps in order to meet my goal! The course was a 2.5-mile figure 8 loop. I needed 13 loops to reach my goal. We started at 6:00 PM on Saturday (and it was still a hot 77° at the start! 🥵) It cooled off nicely once the sun went down, but it was super dark! My headlamp was dead, so thankfully I met a nice guy named Andy who lent me his headlamp and I later borrowed a 2nd one from my friend John, which greatly helped when my legs were tired and I had to pick up the pace!
I started getting blisters around Mile 14, but I kept pushing through the pain because I knew that taking my shoes off would be bad! Once the cold, clammy weather set in, my back was really hurting due to the cancer in my bones! 😣 I took a pain pill and I put my sweatshirt on and I kept plugging away! I was praying non-stop for the last 2 loops and I ran some serious negative splits for the last 5+ miles! Thanks for the prayers and that extra push on the last loop, John & Chad!
I burst into tears of joy when I crossed the finish line at 11:56:04! 😭🥹😁 I DID IT!!! Thank you, Lord, for giving me the strength and thanks to my Traveling Sistas and Cassandra from Latinos Run Fresno for all of your support and encouragement at the finish line and throughout the race! ❤️🤗 I appreciate all of you!
