Gysel Parajon (MM8995, DA3751, HF18751) – A LATE MEDAL MONDAY POST before the stroke of midnight at least in Arizona. 🙃
On Saturday I ran my 64th marathon, state #12 for me at the Mesa Marathon.
It was an incredible day full of intermittent heavy rain, exploring, and touring this part of Arizona. The volunteers were amazing as well as the spectators and yes, because of the outfit I wore, (which I have never done before), I did get a lot of attention. As one of my friends commented it may have given me superpowers today because I cannot stop being surprised at my feat today! I beat my best time from my fastest marathon last year by 1:30!!!!!! (That is 1 minute: 30 seconds by the way, which is a huge deal for me). Now I definitely went out too fast at the start, but I started from the back of the pack and I wanted to catch up to where I should be, then I just kept going. It was probably the combination of the weather, the shoes, (Saucony Endorphin Pros, which are incredibly light and springy), and the nutrition but I felt really good! And this is after some serious sleep deprivation after working seven days straight, dealing with family stuff, and then driving two days to get to this part of Arizona.
I have not run like I did today in ages and this race was flatter than advertised or what I expected! Normally I like downhill or hilly courses because running on flat courses is more challenging for me or so I thought. But in any case I really enjoyed this course! Even with the rain!! Actually I’ll take rain over heat any day!
Thank you to the volunteers, the spectators, my wonderful friends, new and old, my family, and especially my son although he may not understand it yet for allowing me the time to do this. ❤️
