20 Tales From Medal Monday Volume 2 Chapter 15

Medal Monday brings many stories of achievement for our members. Here are recent stories from the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics, as told by you, as posted on the Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics Facebook pages.

Heather Broyles (HF18438) – MedalMonday…I haven’t posted in awhile…last weekend was The Crazy Horse Half in Hill City, SD and yesterday the IMT Des Moines Half. This Saturday will be the KC Half.

Charlene Mercer Board (HF7024) – Medal Monday coming from Amelia Island, Florida

Today I ran my 105th Half Marathon ( Zooma Amelia Half) in Amelia Island, Florida with my run crew Renae Larson & Anita Burns
The race started off at 62 degrees and windy but by mile 5 I had to come out of the hat and jacket.
I was under the impression that’s was going to be all flat but there were several hills plus we ran some trails😜😜which wasn’t in our plans. We didn’t encounter any 🐊 but we did encounter 🦌 on the trail ( praise God no one got hurt)
I started the race with the 2:30 Pace Group ( they were doing a 60/30 Jeff Galloway pace)
I was able to keep up with them until mile 7, but they were going a bit fast for me. Come to find out they finished at 2:15🤪🤪🤪#NOTAGOODPACETEAM
But the BEST part of the race is that I finished with a time of 2:32:37🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I haven’t had a time like that in 10.5 years, I was so STOKED with this time.
So happy with my training crew, they push me, encourage me, and cheer for me❤️
What a great weekend this has been, thank you Lord 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Mike Staudinger (HF4282) – Medal Monday
Urban Bourbon Half Marathon

Paula Jamieson (HF6154) – Happy Medal Monday! Did back to back weekends and forgot to post last Monday. First up was rock and roll Clearwater, it was a beautiful race, a couple of tough Bridges but the support was amazing on the course.. second Vacation Races Lake Powell half marathon which was 99% Trail and I absolutely loved it ❤ challenging but stunning and just too much fun! Half marathons 95 and 96 in the books 🙂

Samuel Z. Lafaye (MM15562, DA3342, MM14775) – Completed my 77th half marathon, and the leg of the King Crab Challenge in Baltimore, MD.

Pamela Truelove-Walker (HF14860) – State #34, Maryland, is done! I think I enjoyed the Health Expo and vendors more than the race😂. For those seeking events with cool medals, the crab does not disappoint. Gladly adding this one to my collection.

Yolanda Chance (HF10934) – checked off Michigan this weekend #detroitfreepresshalf

Kim K. Groves (HF15235) – Detroit Free Press International Half Marathon. Official Half #59 for me. This was a bucket list race. The chance to run from the US into Canada. I was injured in a car wreck 4 weeks ago today & wasn’t sure how it would go. My only goal was to finish it. The course is beautiful. I took way too many pictures. Water & Gatorade were plentiful. The crowds were pretty awesome on both sides of the border. For some reason my timing chip did not work after the 7 mile mat, but when I contacted them on my results they were very quick to get it taken care of. Highly recommend this race.

Michelle Migneault Cox (HF17353) – Great race day with my 112th half marathon done & the 3rd time doing IMT Des Moines. The course was new this year & I didn’t like it as much as most of it was in a park and not seeing downtown, but it’s flat & there’s usually good swag, nice medal & after party.
My race experience wasn’t good. I was pretty miserable the whole time & lost Karen, Penny & the 3 hour pace group at like mile 3… BUT what made it all better was knowing that Ayrin was waiting at the finish with her adorable daughter Madalyn, which was so kind & super appreciated!

Lan Castle (HF1723) – I finished the Hayden Lake Half Marathon on Saturday 14 Oct. It was a very hilly course but pretty. The weather was 47 and warmed up to maybe 54 but now wind. It was overcast the whole time so it probably would have been prettier had the sun been out. It was a small race and no spectators except for the few people following their runner around and cheering for them and us too! I won a pint glass by beathing all the other old ladies. Oh, wait I was the only old lady!

Stefanie McKinney-Holliday (MM14386, HF17442, DA3313) – What an amazing race, y’all!! I don’t know what I anticipated, but I loved this course, the people and the BEAUTY!! I HAD to stop to take a few photos! Thank you to the Half-Fanatics crew for the start line photo with me today! I’m so happy to meet you!

Jacqueline Schreiver (HF17811) – MDI Half – Maine – state #29
Lots of elevation!!!!!

Ronita Bland (HF8514, DA2131, MM12368) –Guess who had a double weekend filled with hills??? Today Durham, NC after HM in Columbia, SC yesterday. I got over all those hills now I can rest😉

Ron Nmi Childres (HF15826) – Half 129 finally done. It’s been 6 months since my last half marathon. Detroit Free Press Marathon Runners was a blast

Amy Seagroves (HF18410, DA3652, MM15648) – Half #100 repeat state Baystate Half in MA. I have mixed feelings on this race. This races is located on the MA/NH border and is about 20 minutes away from me so should have been a really easy race logistically speaking but race day parking was a nightmare as there were road closures even though the race guide said the roads would be open until 7:30 and the garage was cash pay only even though the race guide said cash or credit card and it took almost 30 minutes to park. Even though I left with over an hour of time to spare I was in a rush to get my packet which had huge lines as there was a wifi issue so they were having trouble assigning bibs. It was not a great start. Bottom line if you are doing this race try to do packet pick up the day before and if you don’t arrive very, very early and bring cash.

Things were smoother once the race started. There were some things I loved about the race. For starters it’s a very fast course with no hills just a few inclines and declines. I was faster than yesterday but quite a few minutes despite having blisters on my feet from running in the rain yesterday and very sore legs. There is also some beautiful fall foliage on the course and a good amount of spectators for a midsized race. They also keep the finish line open for 6 hours so you don’t have to worry about not getting a finishing time. However there were some things I didn’t like. One is that it is a double loop course which can be a bit boring. I also didn’t think it was that back of the pack friendly for a race with a 6 hour time limit. There is also a marathon but they do a different loop so miles 6.5 to 8.5 have only half marathoners do the section twice and by the time I made it to that section only a tiny part of the road was coned off and the aid station on that section ran out of water. Even worse they ran out of half marathon medals and they gave me a marathon one but I can pretend I ran the marathon and BQ’ed lol. I hope that doesn’t mean slow marathoners won’t get their medal. Overall this was an okay race but every race I’ve done in MA has only been an okay race.

Susan Werner (HF4572) – Its offical!!! HALF 100!!!!!! Detroit free press half marathon. What a fun race!!! It was a blast!

Jorgina Sanders (HF16456) – What an amazing race at Texas Ring of Fire Half Marathon, 10k, 5k, 0.5 mi Fun Run 2023
Half #102

Gregory Rouson (HF8068, MM12723, DA2354) – You already know what it is. You already WHO it is. #YaBoi is back on dat half marathon bullsh*t after running two
Abbott World Marathon Majors two weeks apart. So, without further ado…
Lifetime half marathon #205, #KingCrabChallenge #…(I actually don’t know 🤔) and Baltimoron-a-thon # (you know what…I don’t actually know that either! It’s a LOT, though 😂)…DONE!!! #HF8068 #MM12723 #DA2354 #Roustance
