Brian Johnson (MM8807, DA707, HF7287)-July 30th. Burning River 50 mile 2022
27 miles complete
DNF

I wanted to do this race to see how I had improved over the last few years with my running.
Best answer…not improved enough.
This race definitely requires some skill.
The Elevation change in this race can get brutal.
By the time I was done there was a 2200 foot ascent.
The race starts in Cuyahoga falls. The first few miles are on city streets. Then you hit the trails.

The views are beautiful.
The day wasn’t bad. The weather was almost perfect. When you get in the direct sun…it gets a little brutal.
The aid stations were about every 4 miles apart. Carrying a camelback is definitely key.
There is so a few times you run on open road.
I can’t begin to count how many roots I tripped over.
If I could change one thing, I would have had my other trail shoes on to start the race.

Around mile 19, I met a person have a long day named Kristen. Kristen was using hiking poles and moving slowly. I stayed with her and we both helped each other get to the aid station at mile 27. Her mom was waiting there.
We both decided to be done with the race there. I knew I was running at least 45 minutes behind the cutoff and probably wouldn’t recover.
Her mom was nice enough to give me a ride back to my car in a very unique van.

It was a pretty good day. I learned a lot. I also got a reward of Taco John’s on the trip home

Time to rest, reset, and start again
That’s still a BADASS accomplishment! You should be proud! Great pics too. Thanks for sharing. You are awesome. 🙌🏻
