There were several big/popular races this weekend and sometimes the smaller races, especially ones that give groups such as this discounts can get overlooked. Honoring Our Heroes Marathon and Half Marathon was on Saturday (11/20/21) in Rolla, Missouri is one such race.
For me Honoring Our Heroes Half in Rolla, Missouri was State #33, lifetime half #74. It’s a nice point to point race. It’s on the small side (maybe 500 total between full, half, marathon relay, 10k and 5k), pre-race pasta dinner included with registration, super volunteers, charter bus to start lines, free post race massage, plenty of post race snacks including chili served by local boy scout troop.
There were hills, but not as bad as I expected (they looked bad, but they were long gentle uphills) and views were gorgeous with perfect weather. It’s great for walkers with a generous 7 hour time limit for the full and half.
Only “complaints” are roads are not closed and the first 9 miles of the half are on the shoulder of a fairly busy road with a speed limit of 45-55 and there weren’t “caution runners on road signs”. Also I wouldn’t have minded a few additional course markers to let me know I was still on course since I had lost sight of the runners/walkers in front of me.
