10 Short Stories from Medal Monday Volume 9

Medal Monday brings many stories of achievement for our members. Here are 10 recent stories from the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics, as told by you, as posted on the Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics Facebook pages.

Gregory Rouson (#HF8068 #MM12723 #DA2354)

Lifetime half marathon #156 and RnR DC Half #5 (or #6?)…DONE!!! It felt weird running this race in the fall instead of it’s normal time of year in late winter. I felt great, through, despite having run a marathon a week ago. #RnRDC

Dani Shown (MM8045 DA565 HF4557)

Completed Revel Big Bear yesterday – loved this course. Downhill, but after mile 2 not a steep grade. Was able to just set a pace and go with it. PR’d by over 6 minutes so got to ring the bell. As always, this Revel course was well supported, well organized, wonderful finish food – the peanut butter Crumble Cookies and pizza were fabulous. I even saw Hank OnThe Hill on the course! Good times. Congrats to all who finished everywhere you raced this weekend.

Delia Gonzalez (HF16658)

Participated in the Big Bear half in SoCal yesterday. My 3rd Revel Race this year which qualified me for what they call the triple Reveler. This meant 2 medals after finishing the race! I got to meet this lovely lady on the course, Julianna Hays! She was really nice and said hello to me since I was wearing my HF shirt! Here is a pic of she and I on the course and some “fun” pics with the medals! And a fun pic with all of our medals for the year below the HOLLYWOOD sign.

Linda Snell (HF18475)

My last half of the year! Cannot say enough good things about this one: fantastic volunteers, extremely well organized, scenic out and back course….and great wine at the finish! Plus, they let me and a couple others who had to walk get a 30 min head start so we could finish in time, as well as keeping things up for the last runner! Plus, this company has a 26.2 challenge: you can earn the medal by completing the miles over their various distances all summer/fall, and I finally earned mine! This is special as I’ve had to walk all of my races with them since my car accident in July. You should all check them out next year! Gooddayforarun.com ❤️ #medalmonday

Jessie Abraham (HF9690)

Number 94 Chickamauga Battlefield Half Marathon. Nice race in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. Not to hilly and great support long the race course.

Jodi Moore (MM12047, DA2110, HF13699)

3rd half this year, #22 lifetime. 2nd in AG. Cold, but it didn’t snow, and the free post-race massage was most welcome.

Kathryn Oakley (HF18360)

Monday, 15 November 2021. On Saturday, 13 November 2021, I ran in my 1st Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington DC Half Marathon. I had a great time with the runner and crowd support and bands/music and I loved the scenic course (with the hills too). It was my 2nd Half Marathon for DC. For 2021, I have completed 4 Half Marathons to date (PA, MD, VA (my home state), and +DC). Lifetime Half Marathon #17 Done ✅. Rock ‘n’ Roll Lifetime Events #9 Done ✅. I am still stuck on State #8 out of 50 for now. After Saturday’s Half Marathon, I went home with 3 Rock ‘n’ Roll medals. My 3rd (2014, 2019, and sadly FINAL 2021) in-person Half Marathon was the Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon. Because I ran the Virginia Beach and Washington DC Half Marathons, I earned the Rock ‘n’ Roll Capital to Coast Limited Edition Medal. Also, since DC was my 4th Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, I earned the “4ever Young” Heavy Medal. #HalfFanatics #HF18360 #medalmonday

Arnel Tagle (MM15446, DA3580, HF17894)

Happy #medalmonday !!
Ran the Coastal Delaware Half on minimal training with one of my closest running friends.
A little chilly to start, but perfect weather for those wanting a PR!

Christy Marchel (MM15677, DA3667, HF6302)

I forgot to post my race for medal Monday. I ran the Mayberry Half Marathon on Saturday. Cold cold cold. We seem to have skipped the nice cool weather and went from tanks to jackets.

Patty Bishop (HF 12118)

Finished Half Marathon #182 over the weekend, at the ‘Colonel Sanders Half Marathon’, in Corbin, KY…
