Tales From Medal Monday Volume 3 Chapter 11

Medal Monday brings many stories of achievement for our members. Here are recent stories from the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics, as told by you, as posted on the Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics Facebook pages.

Congratulations to all of our members who ran this past weekend!

Michelle Migneault Cox (HF17353) – medalmonday is here and Saturday I completed my 119th half & Caitlin completed her 4th🏅✅ In May 2016 @caitcox_ & I did our first half & it’s been since May 2017 that we’ve done one together.

This weekend was a blast! Revel Rockies did not disappoint with nuun, fuel and dōTERRA blue at every station! We were bussed up the mountain to Evergreen and finished in Morrison. It was 83° when we finished and we were in the sun and heat since mile 3. In the photos you can see I was … See more

Katina Green- (HF#12236, MM#155380, DA#3564) – MedalMonday…Half marathon #91 was accomplished on Sunday, at the Go Girl Race event in Columbia, MO. It was a repeat event for me, that included rolling hills through and around the Mizzou campus, as well as a good chunk of neighborhood and trail running in the surrounding area. It was nice to knock out the race with a couple of friends, as well as meet and chat with several other ladies pre and post race. HF#12236, MM#155380, DA#3564.

Karen A Flynn(HF1043, DA158,MM4024) – & Dan Delino (HF1058, DA161, MM4059),- MedalMonday #MotivationMonday from my 9th YTD & 207th lifetime half marathon 06/02/24 at the Rock n Roll San Diego Half Marathon (Dan ran the full)! We have run this race many times as it is our hometown race but I feel like this was THE BEST year ever! From Friday all the way through Sunday when we were the last to leave the finish party it was non-stop fun! We can’t wait until next year – it can’t get here soon enough! Congratulations to everyone who raced & thank you to all of the volunteers who supported us! This was a weekend to remember! ❤️ 🏃‍♀️

Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics at the Fargo Marathon

Tricia Davis (HF18538) & Aubrey Davis(HF18587) –It’s #medalmonday! And, all I can say is, “Bravo Fargo!” My husband Aubrey Davis and I had another Awesome Runcation to the Fargo Marathon! We completed the Mark Knutson 5k at Concordia College in Moorhead MN on Friday night with about 3000 runners; all were committed to celebrating and honoring this amazing race director! A big highlight was meeting the race announcer Fitz who ran with me across the finish line and gave me a big hug when met at the airport on our way home! We met so many Half Fanatics, 50 staters, and fellow Georgians! And! We were able to visit with our great niece and nephew who live in Moorhead MN! It really is a small world! On Saturday morning, Aubrey and I completed the Fargo Half Marathon which was state #27! Awesome weather, great volunteers, and we met more wonderful runners! I’m always representing Half Fanatics at a race because I get to meet some of you fabulous people in our running community. I can’t remember all the names but please do tag yourself in our pictures. From Columbus GA to Moorhead MN to Fargo ND, all I can say is “Bravo Fargo!” “Family is Everything” #DavisJoy ❤️❤️ #HF18538 #HF18587

Kevin Gonzalez(MM6572, DA413, HF643) – MedalMonday 2024

Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon was a great race. Great turnout and the overcast, cool weather held up throughout.

Gregory Rouson- (HF8068, MM12723, DA2354) – Lifetime half marathon #222 (and 2024 Dash Through the Dirt 5k, 10k, & Half #3)…DONE!!! My quads were still a little sore from running the 2024 Baltimore 10-Miler yesterday but I still got it done. I’m just glad it wasn’t sweltering hot this year. 👍🏾🙌🏾 #HF8068 #MM12723 #DA2354 #bishopsevents #Roustance

Teresa Clark Vincent (HF16573)- RSD 3283 – ran the absolutely beautiful Deadwood Mickelson Trail Half Marathon this morning. We were bussed up to this amazingly remote start line and walked half a mile before the race even started. It was a rolling start, so you could begin anytime between 7:30-8:05am. I wanted to start right at 7:30, but got stuck in a porta potty line and didn’t get there until 7:40am. The race is pretty much all downhill along a hard-packed trail. My legs are still cranky after last weekend’s faster than normal road half and I decided to do a lot of walking, enjoying the scenery. It’s absolutely gorgeous here and my pictures don’t do it justice. Heading out for the post-run party soon. Happy Runday 💖
Lifetime Half: 51
State: 43
Sunday Stats (sMiles 😁):
June: 15.2
2024: 573.4
Total Streak: 12433.9

Sheila Wyatt(HF18809) Visit Casper Marathon (half #15) done. My first back to back half’s. Today was HILLY! Definitely did not train for Wyoming hills 😮. But got it done anyway!

Amy Seagroves(HF18410, DA3652, MM15648) – Half #135 State #46 Fargo Half in North Dakota. This is a fun, flat race with tons of spectator support. There were a few issues with pre-race communication (although some is understandable due to having to change the course from flooding in the area) and I’m not sure what was going on with the miles markers but otherwise it was a great race! I did the 5K in Moorhead, MN Friday too so ended up with 3 medals although I almost forgot the challenge medal and had to go back and get it. There aren’t many choices for North Dakota races and this is definitely a good one

Dani Shown(MM8045, DA565, HF4557) – Completed Fargo Half this morning. Loved the race the first time I did it and this time (did this one for North Dakota for round 1 and now round 2). Lovely day, nice course and thankfully lots of shade! State 41 for round 2 of 50 states +DC done!

Gysel Parajon (MM8995, DA3751, HF18751)- I made my way to the Rockies this weekend to knock out two more states in my 50 states quest, Colorado and South Dakota!!
On Saturday I ran the last Revel Rockies Marathon in the Denver area on two hours of sleep, which I do not recommend. It was beautiful, hot, and challenging. I really enjoyed the switchbacks as well as the rolling hills in the middle and the curving downhill at the end. As I knew I would be running again the next day I paced myself throughout the race but gave a good push in the last third of the race. And I got to meet and run alongside some cool Maniacs and 50-Staters.
Almost immediately after finishing the race I drove through the beautiful expanse of Wyoming to get to Deadwood, SD and was pleasantly surprised to find myself in another forest, the Black Hills National Forest. Trees and mountains are life for me so this was pretty great.
On Sunday, I had my fun on the trails of the Mickelson Trail starting from the small town of Rochford to Deadwood for the full marathon. The reviews I read about this race and course are inaccurate in my opinion except for the fact that it is absolutely beyond beautiful! I don’t know if it’s because I mentally prepared myself for a second long day of running but I felt this race was not as challenging as I had read. I’m not saying it was easy, it was not, but it just felt different. The first half has a very gradual incline, which felt level to me and very doable while the second half was an incredible downhill journey, also gradual and winding, which I throughly enjoyed. I do admit my strength lies in my quads as I train on trails and hills in my mountain town. For this race I used a run/walk method for the first half but in the second half I got a second, third, or umpteenth wind and I felt like I was flying. I had started the race in the back of the pack but throughout the day and in the end I made my way somewhere to the back of the mid pack.
As always thank you to the volunteers, the RDs, especially Emily Schulz from the DMTM for putting on such a great race and helping out the late arriving runners on Saturday night, my friends, and my family, especially my sweet boy and his papa. I could not do what I do without you! ❤️

Rob Foote(MM15987) – Casper Marathon

Sandee Landon(MM7745) – medalmonday Casper Marathon WY

Carrie Kelley (MM16054) – I’m sorry. Most of you will find this pathetic but I’m trying to get better. I used to average a 4:30 full then as my discs crushed & pinched nerve, I got slower then surgery. 🙄 Started out at about 3:30 am early Saturday morning at the Utah Valley Marathon and finished DEAD LAST 9 hours later. That’s what I had in me that day. All the runners were long gone. I was surprised the finish line was still up but the RD is a runner himself who respects all runners. This is 2 years after L4-L5-S1 spinal fusion surgery with a number of huge setbacks in my recovery along the way and now a numb L leg & foot leftover from pinched nerve. 🤦‍♀️ In the caboose and trying to make my way back to the Back of the Pack. I’ve got Bear Lake Triple coming up and hoping for the best. 🤞🤞🤞

MarathonNumber112

Marathon Maniacs at the FANS 6, 12 and 24 hour race

Karin Herzmann (MM7466) – Today I completed state #48 in Casper, Wyoming. I met a fantastic group of excellent athletes. I posted individual pictures that my husband took on the course. I’m not Facebook friends with them, so I’m posting them here. I don’t know a different way to share.
Casper Marathon was great! A great race director!
Up next…Mesa Falls, Idaho for state #49

Sameer Khurana(MM13642, DA2835, HF15807) – Revel Rockies Marathon – 20th state and 50th overall marathon! It was a hard one due to altitude issues especially coming from sea level and it got hot towards the end of the race. Loved the scenic views and it was a very well organized race by Revel series. My 3rd
REVEL Race Series race this season so was happy to receive the beautiful Triple Reveler medal!

Laurie Weiner(MM15681, DA3668, HF9266) – last 2 miles when my ankle started hurting as it was so swollen in my sock. I was going to try and go to 40 miles, but my ankle and knee were more important to not injure them. I am happy with finishing 50k and proud that I listened to my body. So many friends at this race that is the reason I keep running this race.
It ended up being a perfect day for weather with a cool start and the sun came out and it got up to about 80 degrees by the time I finished.
Now to start hitting the trails in Cuyahoga Valley National Park to get ready for Burning River marathon next month.

Shani Waite(HF17863, DA3483, MM15086) – A beautiful day to have participated and completed the Fargo Marathon. Ran into a few Maniacs along the way.🤗

Rachel Whiting Wiley (HF18795) – Utah Valley Half Marathon this morning with a friend from college; half-or-greater #48 for me! Beautiful course on a beautiful morning. They had an issue with their medals, so a flower lei for today.

Heidi Marie Hammond (HF18098) – 2 half’s in 2 states this holiday weekend. Medina Ohio for the 10th anniversary race and Buffalo NY on Sunday. Both had great weather and support.

Jennifer Clark(HF16743, DA3643, MM15623) – Medal Monday!!
Half #293, #294 and # 295!!
Three Races this Memorial Day weekend! The Texas Triple in Dallas Tx!
All three days were on the same concrete and an asphalt path around Bachman Lake near Love Field. The course was flat except for a small hill at the Start/Finish. That hill seemed to get longer and higher after each round! There was some shade on the course but a lot of sun! Half Marathons did 4 loops while the Middle arathoners did 8 loops.
Three days of the most confusing weather ever!
Saturday it was cloudy with a nice breeze the kept things not as hot as it might have been.
Sunday Morning came. I woke up and headed out at 4:00AM to the early start at 5:00. David was volunteering so he needed to be there. We were met with the thunderstorms and high winds so it was going to wild day!
And day three, no storms!! It was replaced with high temps and high humidity! A scorcher!! Thank goodness for the early start!
Still it was a great weekend. We saw a lot of Mainly Marathons friends and met a lot of new people . Eflores Walkabout ran her 100th half! Jim Simpson became the #1 Marathon male runner in North America with 2326 marathons.
The reward was a belt buckle on a lanyard! Each day was a different theme (it is Texas after all)! If you did all three days, then you got a Texas Triple medal as well! Think about added this one to your “must do” list for next year’s Memorial Day weekend!
