20 Tales From Medal Monday Volume 3 Chapter 6

Medal Monday brings many stories of achievement for our members. Here are recent stories from the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics, as told by you, as posted on the Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics Facebook pages.

Congratulations to all of our members who ran this last weekend!

Sheri Fulton Camp (HF16294) – Completed another half marathon at the Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon today. Chilly at the start for this Arizonan girl. Hung out with my friend Jenn. Had fun taking pictures along the way. Next up, a race in Delaware to finish my second round of running a race in all fifty states. Plus Gary Camp will finish golfing in all fifty states during the Delaware trip.

Heather Zeigler (MM3086) – Sub 4!!! I messed up here last year so I was happy for a little redemption!! I love REVEL – getting a little closer to 100 sub4 marathons – YAY 🤗 #runrevelmtcharleston #sub4marathoner #marathon #run

Michelle Cox (HF17353) – I did it! Half marathon # 115✅ Not only did I finish @rocktheparkwayhalf but I did it 8min faster than my goal. I mean my main goal was to finish, but I was really hoping I could do it in 3:30 and I finished at 3:22! Not my worst finish either.

Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics at the T-Town Half

Barb Buttin (MM15607) – Mt Charleston # 2. What an experience! 14 degrees and snow/ice at the summit and only 50 degrees and crazy wind in the valley made for super challenging running conditions… leg cramps were a given! Showed up on time at mile 20 and 22 and ruined my time😩. Oh well…. Still fun was had by all!

Kim Michaux (MM15963, DA3744, HF16698) & Woody Michaux (HF18452, DA3736, MM15923)

Team Woody rolled at 2024 Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run this morning! Huge thank you to Matthew Fish April Ristau Malerie Anderson Woody had a blast!! Ainsley’s Angels in Fredericksburg, Virginia and the race director really went all out to make it special for Woody.
Woody’s amazing team finished with him after I fell and twisted my ankle at mile 2. I made new friends with two local officers and had a fun 12 mile ride in a gator like vehicle with them!!
Sheetz was a super fun 14 mile trail run with a Pi Stop at mile 3.14 with actual pie, the s’mores stop, the Aunt Annie’s pretzel stop – and donuts at the finish! Hopefully I’ll be able to actually run it next time! 😅
Edited to add none of the photos are mine!! Huge thanks to everyone who took photos!!!

Jennifer Clark (MM15623, DA3643, HF16743) – Medal Monday!!
Saturday, April 6 Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Hattiesburg Half. Half #277
Sunday, April 7 Huntsville, Alabama. Bridge Street Town Center Half. Half #278
Both races were fun: good courses, good support and a good after party.

Darrell Gammon (HF7677, DA1780, MM11685) – Yesterday I ran Run For Home half marathon, my 147th lifetime half marathon. Did 2:41:58 finish but I wanted around 2:30, but I am happy. Hard training in winter here in NE Ohio. This course is hard at miles 4.5, 9, 11 which are long steep hills.

Before the Rock the Parkway Half in Kansas City.

Stefanie McKinney-Holliday (MM14386, DA3313, HF17442) – With two marathons in the last two weeks, I wanted to enjoy a half in my neck of the woods today with the Gulf Coast Half-Marathon in Pensacola Beach! Love running our Gulf Coast area races. Using this as a taper for my next marathon in three weeks.

Amy Seagroves- (HF18410, DA3652, MM15648) – Well it was a rough week for me but I got 2 half marathons done but it looks like only 1 will count. I had an anaphylactic reaction to amoxicillin earlier in the week and wasn’t sure I’d be able to do any races but I was better enough by the weekend for moderate exercise which meant speed walking with an epipen but I couldn’t fully exert myself
Saturday I was supposed to do the Cheap Half Marathon in NH (which is an excellent race and I believe there are now some openings) but it was postponed to April 20 due to course conditions from a storm during the week. I wasn’t up for traveling given the weather and health issues but it seemed like luck that there was another half marathon just 45 minutes away in MA the Fool’s Dual Half in Gloucester produced by YukanRun. I will be honest I am not a fan of these races as they are always on busy, open roads but they are a convenient location for me and always have nice scenery. They also have a stated 3 hour time limit but every time I’ve done their races before they kept the finish line open. Well not this weekend so it looks like a DNF since I could not do under 3 hours without exerting myself. I did finish the race and got a medal just not a finishing time and am seeing if I can get a manual result entered as the timer did see me finish but I don’t have much hope. I can’t be too bitter as I knew this was a possibility and it was take a chance with this race or nothing but I wanted to warn others to not run these races if you might be over 3 hours
Sunday was better but still not great. Today I completed Half #123 Great Bay Half in NH. This was a beautiful although very hilly course and the roads were either closed, coned off or very quiet so did not have to worry about getting hit by a car in this one. It also had a 3:30 time limit and they said they would keep the finish line open for everyone even people over the time limit so didn’t have to worry about a DNF. However I think due to the difficulty this race did not attract many back of packers so I was DFL the entire race. Even though I was well under the pace requirement for the 3:30 time limit they were literally breaking down the course alongside me. It was not a great experience. I don’t know why they couldn’t wait 2 minutes so I could have the full race experience especially when I ended up finishing several minutes under the time limit. Oh well. Everyone at the finish line including the announcer were enthusiastic and great. I got a finishing time and medal and there was too much pizza so I got a whole pizza pie as a consolation prize for my DFL. I do think this would have been a very good race if they just kept the course open a few minutes longer. Ugh I wish New England races were more back of the pack friendly. Hope to have a better weekend next weekend in Rhode Island and Delaware and hope to see some of you there!

Gina Forestieri (HF18136) – Waynesville, North Carolina, gateway to the Smokies, super super small race, one of my slowest and I got second for my new age group, 60 to 98, let’s welcome in being freaking old considering there were only two people in this age group I’m not impressed! But there’s still were nine younger people behind me Even though it was a small race, the volunteers were super friendly , most of the course was pretty, but OMG, those hills were killers!  It was a nice birthday weekend, and I got to visit two old high school friends

Patti Randall Krebsbach (HF629, DA99, MM2584) – Lincoln Presidential Half. Super cool medal!! It’s much shinier than what it appears in my photo. Other swag included sweatshirt, long sleeve tech shirt, and a Lincoln throw blanket (which will be mailed to all participants).

Steve Walters(MM338, DA9, HF21) – Half marathon double weekend. Corvallis Half Marathon Saturday on the campus of Oregon State University. The Hop Hop Half Marathon at Lacamas Lake in Camas Washington. An Oregon/Washington double with a 1:50 (105 mile) drive between the two for those interested

Gregory Rouson(HF8068, MM12723, DA2354)– Lifetime half marathon #217 and Salisbury Half Marathon #3…DONE!!! We couldn’t have asked for better running weather this morning. With only one real hill on this course, I was able to run the first 10 miles non-stop. I felt surprisingly good throughout the entire race so I pushed my pace during the last few miles. 🏃🏾‍♂️👍🏾 #HF8068 #MM12723 #DA2354 #100halfmarathonsclub #Roustance

Laurie Weiner (HF9266, DA3668, MM15681) – Today I Ran Run The Land East vs West 20 miler in Cleveland, Ohio. Holy hills Batman! This race had more hills than lead on. Thanks Deb for running the entire race with me. My left groin became very angry after mile 5 with all the hills. Fought for 15 miles with pain, but got it done. Came home and used my blade immediately and hot epson bath. This worked as a catered training run for Eagle Up Ultra 50 miler in June. Now to recover. No medal, but a glass as the award. I was the oldest female in all the races.

Carla Marie Simon (MM14304, DA3133, HF13789) – Ran in the Think Spring half marathon this morning in De Pere Wisconsin. It marked my 2nd in person half marathon race of 2024 and my 98th lifetime half marathon finish. This weather was great compared to last year’s race and a bit different course ran 2 hours 33 minutes 38 seconds today versus the 2 hours 53 something I ran last year. Definitely more warmer and not really much wind this year compared to last year too. Marked my last long run before the Boston marathon.

Michael Hall (HF16228, DA3242, MM14514) – Aquarium Half, Jenks, OK 4-6-24 Lifetime #78 YTD #14

Sameer Khurana (MM13642, DA2835, HF15807) – Western Pacific Half Marathon – It was beautiful weather with good running conditions and no muddy or slippery trails. It’s one of the best time to run at Quarry Lakes in Fremont, CA with lush green views and the lakes at good capacity after all the recent rains. It was great meeting with Rachel Ross who completed her 445th half marathon. It was my 87th half marathon and 8th of 2024!

Eddie Hahn (MM184) –

Bakersfield California US 4/7/24. My 4th completion of the Bakersfield Marathon (2nd on the current course)-Beast Pacer 5:05, 5:04:47. REVEL Race Series Mt Charleston (Las Vegas NV) US 4/6/24 3:50 Pacer, 3:48:50 finish. My 7th Revel Mt Charleston finish (legacy, sans special edition COVID).
o My 22nd Double (back-to-back days).
o Second double (back-to-back days) pacing assignment.
o 40th overall (marathon) pacing assignment
o Mt Charleston was my 85th marathon below 4 hours.
o My 305th marathon finished.
The accidental double-I misread the Calander when I wrote down the commitment, and thought the marathons were on opposite week ends not consecutive days.

Lawrence Allie (MM16304) – Paris Marathon

Glenn Richardson (MM14162, DA3076, HF16007) – Country Mile 48 hour

Charlotte Corriher (MM3514) – The Country Mile Race 48 hr
