20 Tales From Medal Monday Volume 3 Chapter 2

Medal Monday brings many stories of achievement for our members. Here are recent stories from the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics, as told by you, as posted on the Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics Facebook pages.

Jackie James (HF17621) – Hey fam❤️I hope you’re enjoying your Saturday! This morning was my first race of 2024 temp 8 feel of 0! 25k is done!! I was dressed perfectly. My nose & mouth got cold, buff froze along with my water. 71 st bridge winds took my breath away which made it a challenge + it was the longest run since November, just chilling other than short runs 7 max🤦🏾‍♀️I walked more than planned. Hydration should have been much better throughout the week! Thanks to my friend Kristi slowing all the way down from her norm to stay with me the whole race + all walk breaks. It’s still a reunion in freezing temps!! This is what we do!!😜Shout out to ultra marathoners who took on the 50k!!! Thank you to Fleet Feet for another great event, special thanks to the volunteers out there; some even after running the 5k or 10k🙌🏾

Sameer Khurana (HF15807, DA2835, MM13642) – Coyote Hills Half Marathon – 2nd of 2024 and 81st lifetime Half Marathon.
Weather was bad with cold winds and rain which caused the trails totally muddy and slippery. Slipped one time which usually doesn’t happen with me and immediately started regretting on the choice of shoes which I made for this race. There was hardly any grip in the shoes as I was wearing road shoes so was extra cautious to avoid any slipping and avoiding any injury. Saw lot of runners who had slipped and their legs were muddy.
Overall, had a great time running this race in the beautiful Coyote Hills Regional Park!

Julia K Garling (HF15262, DA2566, MM3960) – I was deeply honored to Pace the 2:15 group in the Miami Half marathon over the weekend and it was my 211th lifietme half marathon and state 20!

Tom Robinson (MM7008, DA3753, HF18757) – Big Beach Half

Some Runners before Saturday’s Too Cold to Hold Dallas #HalfFanatics

LeAnne Chaffin-Winkleman (HF18514) – Big Beach Marathon

Robert Manon (HF3646, DA431 MM3700) – 544th and 545th lifetime half marathons.
Winter Fun Half Marathons double this weekend in Southern California. I was originally doing the Sun Marathon in Utah but had to change my plans and settle for these races instead.

Vicki Sue Merry (HF67, DA23, MM888) – Big Beach weekend. Safari 7K on 27 Jan was very wet. So much so that my husband, who races using a handcycle, decided it was too dangerous for him to participate. Big Beach races were on 28 Jan. I did the half; hubby did the marathon. (Marathon medal not pictured.)
Backgrounds for the photos are the
Gypsy Runner capris I wore for the races.

Michael Hall (HF16228, DA3242, MM14514) – Too Cold to Hold, Dallas TX White Rock Lake, 1-27-2024

Katherine Pitts Devereaux (HF11078) – Marathon #5 completed in Celebration Florida.

Jacqueline Schreiver (HF17811) – Clearwater

Jessica Bravo (MM12776) – Big Beach Marathon Sunday vs. Medal Monday. Great run and thank goodness Sundays weather was perfect running weather. State #29 of 50 done ✔️

Diane Casselberry (MM9234) – My daughter and I just ran in our 5th and 6th continents, a midnight marathon in Antarctica then 3.5 days later in Punta Arenas. We only have Asia left

Marathon Maniacs & Half Fanatics at the Big Beach Marathon

Pascal Radley(MM2051) –Completed the Marrakech Marathon for lifetime marathon #458. I was already somewhat fatigued due to travel and touristy stuff, so decided early to enjoy the run and the sights, take a few photos. During the last 5 miles or so, traffic control became sparse which slowed me down even more. Happy to finish and squeak in under 5 hrs. (4:59:03).
