20 Tales From Medal Monday Volume 2 Chapter 7

Medal Monday brings many stories of achievement for our members. Here are recent stories from the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics, as told by you, as posted on the Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics Facebook pages.

Paul Vining (MM15580, DA3647, HF18444)

This past Sunday I completed the very wet Flying Pig Marathon, took me a long time but I got it done. Slowly building back strength in my left calf from a complete Achilles tendon tear last August. The road back to marathon maniac shape is long but progress is made one run at a time.

Alexandra Molina (MM15978) – OC Marathon and 5K

Robert Manon (MM6700, DA431, HF3646) – 260th lifetime marathon/ultra was the OC Marathon. Here is the marathon medal and the Beach City Challenge bonus bling for Medal Monday. I ran with my son and we had a blast.

Sameer Khurana-(MM13642, DA2835, HF15807) – Flying Pig 🐷 Marathon, Lifetime# 37th and State#12! Bad weather conditions with pouring rain 🌧️, lightening and humidity! Made a bad choice of taking on course Gatorade and somehow internal system got messed up around 17th mile with bad nausea feeling. Almost threw up at Mile 21. Lesson learnt! Overall it’s a great race with amazing volunteers and great crowd cheering inspite of bad weather. Never seen these many aid stations so far in all my marathons. It has to be in my top 3 marathons! 🏃🏽 Loved it! 🫶🏼

Dailyn Valdez (MM15916, DA3732, HF18660) & Tony Valdez (HF18746) – Rain or shine we all got
Flying Pig Marathon ✅ Wet & wild to say the least🤪Thunder lightning rain lots of fun spectators great course with sunshine at the finish #medalmonday #marathonmaniacs #50statesmarathonclub #DoubleAgent #state12

Erica Sanders-Hurst (MM7182) – Biggest Congrats to all who raced this past weekend and earned a medal… Don’t mind my taped ankle and toes and braced knee… I finished… 😜 #medalmonday #MM7182

David Blas (MM13968) – Medal Monday BMO Vancouver Marathon ~
38th marathon (including virtuals) and 10th time doing my hometown race. 4h and 4m. I highly recommend this race the scenery is spectacular!

Rebecca Mullins (MM15970) – Medal Monday! Yesterday I ran The Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. It poured down rain and stormed, but it was a great race!

Jolanta Thorburn (MM15959, DA3742, HF18461) – This weekend was a first for me, as I was able to complete two different races (Half Marathons) over two days in two different time zones! I flew back home from Indianapolis, Indiana last night after running the #IndyMini and ran the 10th Anniversary of the Snohomish Women’s Half in Everett, WA this morning.
I had a such a great race today with my parkrun family, I think this one might become our annual tradition. This was lifetime half no. 40 #halffanatic

Ed Childress (MM10428, DA1019, HF9891) –

Mary Miller (MM14667) – Nebraska ✅ in the state capital of Lincoln!

Lynda Schnedl (MM14214) – -Ran the Flying Pig Marathon Marathon yesterday. Celebrating my 40th marathon.

Glenn Richardson (MM14162, DA3076, HF16007) – I earned this dude over a year ago but they ran out shirts before I finished so I’ve been waiting as patiently as possible and it finally showed up in the mail today. Woohoo! For those that don’t know, this is a Lazarus Lake road race in Wartrace, TN and I earned this shirt by running 40+ miles in less than 7 hours. It was a lofty goal and a huge PR for me so it was quite disappointing to not get my shirt last year at the race. Stoked to finally have it! Thanks to Steve Durbin with Durbin Race Management for getting it to me.🤘

Merry Mullins (MM15936) – Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon. So much fun. Well organized and met some fellow maniacs along the way.
Run run run.

Barbara Rausch (MM14998, DA3430, HF16197) Rachel Ross (HF6506) and Jen D’Italia.(HF380) American River Parkway Half 4/29/23

From Debbie LaFond , “ Maurice LaFond (MM13948, DA3749, HF18743) keeps saying I am his PR Dept but after this weekend I can’t say enough about him.
The weather folks were wrong by a few hours at the Canton HOF Marathon. He was doing good until mile 14 where the rain got worse causing extensive blisters on the bottom of his heels. For the last four miles it was a walk on the balls of his feet but he made the cutoff and came home with 2nd place for his 42nd marathon!”

Eddie Hahn(MM184) – OC Marathon California US on Sunday May 7th at the Legacy Lounge. Marathon Maniacs Reunion SouthWest/ So Cal as (all except Deo) were unable to make it to the recent 20th Anniversary of the Marathon Maniacs at Tacoma Washington recently . Marathon Maniac Hall of Famer Deo Jerome (MM22) with 540 plus marathons and ultras completed, Jay Cedillo (M14431) with over 75 Revel /Marathons raced and on his way to a marathon per state, Mitchell Chan (MM790) with near 200 marathons finished including 10s of 100 mile races and Half Iron Triathlon Races and the speedy Ward Sullivan (MM1572) a prolific Beach Cities Challenge and regional racer with well over a century of marathons to his credit.

Gilberto Sosa(MM7940, DA7598, HF12046) – After two DNS marathons I was able to complete Pittsburgh Marathon today!!!! Hilly course, high humidity at the start and rain when finishing but otherwise a very well organized race!!!!
— at Pittsburgh Marathon.

Jamie Hotrod Miller (MM14478) – Another Marathon, Another Adventure, Another Memory! #marathonmaniacs #linconmarathon

Amy Sea (MM15648, DA3652, HF12046) – Half #81 State #38 Oklahoma City Memorial Half Marathon. Excellent race which I would highly recommend. It was very well organized and a nice tour of OKC. There were a ton of spectators and unofficial aid stations making it an extra fun course. I even got to get a picture with a chicken. There were some hills but nothing too bad. Would definitely recommend this race for Oklahoma and just in general.

Stefanie Holliday (MM14386, DA3313, HF17742) – Today I took a “break” from full marathons as a taper from last weekend’s Kentucky Derby Marathon heading towards Capital City Marathon in Olympia, WA in two weeks. Highlands College Half Marathon, Birmingham, Alabama-#40 in my lifetime half-marathons.
I placed 2nd in my age group of 50-59! I love the city of Birmingham, and this was a GREAT half in the downtown!

Emily Rose (MM13045) – OC Marathon- beautiful weather, great course, and a new PR! Couldn’t ask for anything more.
