Heidi Hammond (HF#18098) Santa Shuffle Sandusky, Ohio completed today. HM#75, 23rd of 2021.
The race had a good price point all the way to the day before the race which is when I signed up just $69 and I got a really nice red zip up jacket, Santa hat, Santa beard, medal and tree ornament. The jacket has fleece lining, satiny material inside the hood, solid quality zipper that can zip up to cover your neck, and THUMB HOLES! The hat was on the small side which was fine for my little melon but my hero nurse friend couldn’t get hers on. Santa beard was a smelly synthetic so we put some essential oil on them.
The 9am start was right by the water with a nice view of Cedar Point for about a half mile stretch, we then twisted and turned through the streets of Sandusky and a short joint through a nice little park trail before heading back for the finish line which was the same as the start line. The course was well marked and had several law enforcement as well as civilians helping with traffic. Unfortunately there wasn’t any accountability check points and my friend saw a lady cut the course at the park.
The weather was brisk with very light snow and gentle wind at 12 mph coming off the lake which gave a real feel of 28 degrees. There were plenty of water/Gatorade stops and 1 cookie stop and one candy stop. More cookies as well as chips and water at the finish line the medals were handed out still in the plastic because a small ornament to hang on your tree was also enclosed. They had several large christmas inflatables to take pictures with as well as some fun elf cutouts.
I almost forgot…plenty of port-o-potties near the start line area so no long lines before the start of the race.
The official after party did not live up to its hype…it was at a local bar/restaurant so at least we were out of the weather. We got a holiday shot in a test tube and they did AG awards. I got 3rd In AG..the award was a stocking with red and white striped socks.
Overall…a very nicely run race with good support and nice swag! I would recommend this race and enjoyed a great way to start the Christmas holiday week.
Merry running and happy goals for 2022!!
