Family Photos & Tales From Medal Monday Chapter 3

Medal Monday brings many stories of achievement for our members. Here are recent stories from the Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics, as told by you, as posted on the Marathon Maniacs/Half Fanatics Facebook pages.

Amanda Daniel (HF17686) – Medalmonday States #34 and #35 done this weekend! We ran the KY Derby half in Louisville on Saturday and then the Flying Pig half in Cincinnati on Sunday! HF 17686

Race Recaps:
The KY Derby Half- course was gorgeous with lots of cool “landmarks” to see so it made the run so enjoyable! The highlights on course were: Louisville Slugger Field, Louisville Slugger Factory, University of Louisville campus including both the baseball and football stadiums, several bourbon distilleries, pretty churches, and last but certainly THE highlight was running through Church Hill Downs!!! 🐎

The Flying Pig Half- expo was awesome!!! Lots of piggies!! 🐷 The course… very well supported but super tough. There are lots of hills and we didn’t train properly for them, but, we had also run a faster half time the day before so our legs were a little fatigue going into Sunday! The coolest part of the course was the start / finish being at Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Bengals!

Amber Pratt (HF18491) -Half marathon at the Flying Pig in Cincinnati, OH. State #16 for me. Saw other half fanatics out on the course too!

Andi Yakovitz Blaylock (HF18002) – Medal Monday from Flying Pig in Cincinnati. Believe the hype! All you have heard about crowd and community support and postrace party are true. What is also true are the hills. Or better described as the hill. A long slow steady climb for about 4 miles, 6-10. Be wary of any course that includes a place called Mount Adams.🤣 This took a lot out of me. Don’t expect to PR but this race should be on everyone’s list. Half 13, state 12, HF 18002

Bob Jennerich (HF18504)
Bluebonnet half in McKinney texas. Won my age group and set a new PR. 1:47:16. Taking a break from racing until the texas triple marathon may 28

Charlene Mercer Board (HF7024)

Medal #medalmonday
Saturday I ran the Sunset Beach Race and it was a beautiful day to run it! It was flat minus the bridge so I won’t complain. I will do this race again!

Dawn Kennedy James (HF5384)
Abilene, KS – Eisenhower Half April 30, Wichita, KS – Prairie Fire Half May 1 – 2:07:49 and 2:07:37

105 and #106!

Gregory Rouson (HF8068, MM12723, DA2354)
Lifetime half marathon #172, Frederick Running Festival Half Marathon #6, and #NutJobChallenge #5 (5K & Half marathon)…DONE!!! I don’t say this often but I’m proud of how I raced today. My plan was to try to run the first seven miles before starting aggressive intervals but the weather was so perfect that I just went for it. I was able to run the first 10 miles of the race without stopping for water or to walk. I surprised myself. I’ll have to compare my previous course times later; I think I may have run a new course PR…🤔 #HF8068 #MM12723 #DA2354 #BFDChallenge #KingCrabChallenge

John Pitzel (HF4598) medalmonday. Clinton Historic Half on 4/30, paced Lincoln Half 5/1

Jennie Harris-HF17091
Flying pig 4 way w cheese in Cincinnati. My 5th time running this full, full marathon #12. Half is still my favorite distance to run!

Katie Galvin (HF18478) medalmonday Had a great time in Pittsburgh this weekend! Completed the Steel Challenge with the 5k on Saturday and the half on Sunday 😀 Had a great time with running friends and getting to celebrate Nicole and Jodi’s 100th Half! Not a new state but half #26 for me🏃‍♀️ I can definitely recommend this race for anyone needing PA!

Laurie Weiner (HF9266, DA3668, MM15681)

Lisa Brookover Moore (HF9134) MEDALMONDAY Lifetime half #80, state #44 done at the Frisco Railroad Run in Willard, MO.
Starts and ends at Willard Middle School immediately following a paved bike path for about 2 miles before terrain changes to crushed gravel. Largely flat out and back course. Water/Gatorade /snacks stationed about every 2.5 miles. Distances available include 8k, half marathon, marathon, 50k and 50 mile. Post race food included soft drinks, water, pizza, cookies, chips. Bling included medal and choice of tech short sleeve t shirt or singlet.

Michelle Migneault Cox (HF17353) – Today is a double #medalmonday and what a tough weekend! Being 7-9 lbs heavier with less muscle tone and having cold races with very strong winds abt killed me this weekend! My knee hurts and it never hurts after a race 😕 Got 2 weeks to rest up till the next half. Once my weekend schedule is updated I have to get my fall races planned…I’m cutting it real close to have my 100th half on Nov 13! There needs to be more Sunday races in my area 🏃🏻‍♀️ #cookiejar #eisenhowerhalfmarathon #lnkhalfmarathon

Randell Hansen (HF16161, DA2931, MM8508)

Medal Monday. Took 14th Overall at the 14th Annual American River Parkway Half-Marathon this past Saturday where I also took 1st in my Age Group and 1st in the Men’s Masters Group. Great weather for the race and it was nice having some of the wildlife as our spectators; deer, a rabbit, and wild turkeys.

Ryan Slight (HF377, DA68, MM904)
Frisco Railroad Half Marathon in Willard, MO. 65th half, first place age group. #medalmonday

Sabrina Pollard Childs (HF18119) Frederick Running Festival Nut job Challenge. 5k and half!

Sharon Peerenboom (HF3407)
Medal Monday (a day late). The medals for the Eugene Marathon and Half are made from wood reclaimed from the old Hayward Field. This is the first time the event has finished in the new Hayward Field (thanks, COVID). While the new place is beautiful and a great place to finish, there’s nothing like finishing at the original Hayward.

Sue Stevens (HF8593, DA2452, MM12891)
Snohomish Women’s Run in Everett, WA. Half #290 and my second sub-2 hour finish.

Tricia Davis(HF18538) (It’s #medalmonday! I completed the Kentucky Derby Minimarathon in Louisville KY, and the Flying Pig Half Marathon in Cincinnati OH this weekend. Great weather for both races. And, I actually loved all the hills on the course of the Flying Pig.This was my first time completing back to back half marathons. Glad I was able to meet the challenge! #HF18538
